We are very proud of her acapella performance, not background music at all.

First one to perform, first recital. She is singing, but the baby grand is much louder than digital piano she plays at home. We are all very proud of her and will continue our piano days, adding vocal lessons this summer. The song is from Peter Pan. Mallory is playing the vocal line as a melody. Here’s a Billboard write up and video of the original:

Jackson is done with the trombone and will move on to–look out–rock drumming. We already have the kit….we’ll see.

Yay! The dress still fits. I can keep cooking.
I call on Fox
Shapeshifter and Trickster
Edgewalker and Messenger
Help Me Blend with My Surroundings
And Adapt to the Changing Landscapes
Show Me the Hidden Paths Between the Worlds
Teach Me the Ways of Invisibility and Camouflage
Gift Me Your Keen Senses
That I Might See More of What is Around Me
And Use It to Accomplish My Goals
I Call on You Fox
To Bring Magic and Discernment into My Life
Lead Me at Your Steady Gait to Those Places
Where I Might Do the Greatest Good
Let Us Walk The Borders Between Day and Night
And Follow the Scent of Divine Mischief
Fox, I Call on You.
The text is from a framed piece of artwork, on display in his room, that I bought Jackson several months before entering Middle School at Kinard. At the time, I thought it was pertinent to the advancement to middle school for him. Transition to a new school and new friends has been very smooth, Fox Wisdom or not.
It’s still good advice for so many reasons.
We visited a sanctuary located in Divide, Colorado, where we met some foxes and howled along with many rescued Wolves.
Three trees and three laser pods complete the inside decorations this year. We had many neighbors and some folks from the place I volunteer over for a cookie swap to show off our stuff. Fun Christmas spirit for the season.
The first tree is our family room where the presents go. The second is out front-of-house which can be seen from outside. It is blue, silver, and white.
The last tree (fuzzy) is in our bedroom. It is decorated with the ornaments the kids have made over the years, stored separate from the other Christmas stuff in hopes of it lasting longer.

It all started last Christmas, which was our fifth Christmas in Colorado. I had some of my not-at-work and not-asleep time returned to my life after five years of arduous scheduling and meeting with the local Cub Scouts. Jackson and I had a great time with Cub Scouts, and might even say we miss the annual end of October camping without fire at 7,000 feet. It was fun to see all the boys grow and fun to spend time with them. I am happy for the time with my son. I also continue to coach soccer with him and two other great coaches. Needless to say, I was feeling a little guilty about not having the same type of leadership and goal oriented connection with my daughter. Her thing is dance–I don’t dance.
Which brings us back to last Christmas when I asked her what she and I could do. She wanted to sing and record, thank you Disney Channel. So we started on this project, to record and release a Christmas album to our friends and family. Neither of us had any idea how much time would be involved. Santa brought a microphone, cables, stand and an audio interface for the computer–no karaoke stuff–we are going to record track by track until we like the way it sounds.
Our next goal is to start recording original material, and both of us have a better understanding of how to do that. This has truly been one of the best father-daughter projects.
And here it is. We like the way it sounds.
